Flood Season is Here – Be Prepared
The Municipality of French River has received notice from the Province that flood season conditions are now in effect. Due to ongoing snowmelt, changing weather patterns, and rainfall levels, our region may experience localized flooding in low-lying areas.
This seasonal risk highlights the importance of personal preparedness and property protection.
Resident Responsibility
Under Emergency Management best practices, all property owners are responsible for preparing and protecting their own properties. Municipal staff are working to support residents by providing resources; however, proactive prevention begins with you.
What Residents Should Do
- Monitor forecasts via Environment Canada or local media.
- Check your sump pumps, weeping tiles, and drainage systems.
- Remove valuables and electronics from basements and low-lying areas.
- Create or update an emergency kit (72 hours’ worth of supplies).
- Have a plan for pets, seniors, and family members with special needs.
- Use sandbags where needed.
